From 1 November 2024, items 90300, 38514, and 38522 will be amended to allow for a cardiothoracic surgeon to claim when providing standby surgical back up to non-cardiac surgeons undertaking Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) services.

The Medical Services Advisory Committee Executive supported the amendment of MBS items to facilitate a cardiothoracic surgeon remaining on standby during low and intermediate TAVI procedures in December 2023.
